{Paper Cut} A family portrait

The week before I headed out to Kansas, I was able to finish up and send off this amazing group of paper cuts.



I had the honor of cutting out the entire family's prints! They are going to look amazing once they are framed and hung all together.

I've been told that a picture will be sent my way once they figure out how they're going to go about it. To be honest, I'm very excited to see what happens with a piece of work after it leaves my hands and enters into the creativity of someone else!

That's all part of the fun, right?  :)

Not so very good at this

This has been a crazy couple of weeks. However, that seems to be less and less of an oddity around here! I'm getting busy with paper cuttings. . .in fact, I shipped my very first two orders out to clients on Saturday!! It's really exciting, but unfortunately, I'm not doing a very good job of juggling everything! So very sorry for my absence from blogland. . .I'm hoping to get it together and find the balance in working all day at my job, being a Mom & wife, and then going back to work after the girls go to bed in my office with the paper cuttings.

Cross your fingers on that one! I could really use any positive thoughts you can spare. Some days it really seems like this is all going to happen, and it's going to happen a lot sooner than I ever dreamed. And then other days, it feels like it may take a few years after all, if it ever happens at all.

Exciting.
Stressful.
Anxious.
But mostly, I'm just thrilled to be able to create something for people that they truly love!.

Now I'm just crossing my fingers that cutting paper is less controversial than pallet beds!!!

I am now offering my paper cuts in color!



I've discovered that French Paper has a delicious selection of vibrant, yummy colors in their Pop*Tone line. When I saw the colors, I knew they were just want I had been looking for.



Hope you had a wonderful weekend! I enjoyed yummy quesadillas and margaritas with my man, and finally got around to painting my kitchen! I am SO CLOSE to being done with that room! (Have I mentioned how sick of remodeling this house I am??  I just want to be done!)   :)

New Paper Cutting

This weekend I finished up a new paper cutting!! Took me about 8 hours to complete.



The word border was actually pretty tricky! Those letters are about 1/3 of an inch tall. So the curves on the S, C, R & 2 took a little bit of work.



I really love how it turned out!! I just wish I could say that I was now going to frame it or use it as some sort of keepsake. . .

Truth is, it's now ruined.

I'm experimenting with color. . . and let's just say that from now on, I'll be perfecting this color application thing on paper cuttings that did not take me 8 hours. Probably should have done that in the first place, but I thought this was foolproof!!! Oh well! One day I'll learn.

And I've already started in on another cutting! (Can you tell I'm enjoying this?)

It's so much fun to see a person's fingerprint BIG! Your fingerprint is such a part of you & so unique, you leave it everywhere (haha!!) and yet, I for one, rarely look at my fingerprint. Big, you see things in it that you never knew where there such as creases or cool whorl patterns. And, in the case of my husband, you get to see scars, which lead to stories of how that scar came to be!! I'm a little curious to see, as my girls get older, how, if at any, their fingerprints change. I know your fingerprint is your fingerprint for life, but your finger does get bigger so does that mean that it's just the lines that get bigger? I have no idea, but if I stay on this track, I may soon become an expert!

Hope you enjoy this print & hopefully I'll soon be able to show you color versions! (anyone have any experience with Montana Gold spray paint???? I know this can be done, so I'm not giving up until I figure out how!!)

Better photos of the fingerprint cutting

My friend Brad, who just happens to be an amazing photographer, and well, takes photos for a living, agreed to take photos for me of the fingerprint cutting. So, I thought I'd share. :)



His looks a little bit better than mine. Thanks Brad!!

And when I can cut & design like this, I will be supremely happy.
( I know, most of you would think this was torture, not fun!! What can I say?)

Fingerprint Paper Cut Art

I tried something new tonight. About 2 nights ago I had this idea. . . and then forgot about it. But luckily I remembered again later the next day and quickly set to work figuring out the preliminary steps—how to get the clearest possible fingerprint. Turns out the best method consists of scribbling on paper with a pencil and packing tape.

Tonight I finished the tricky part.

Cutting the design out with an X-acto knife.



That's my fingerprint!!!



I've got a few more things planned. I think they would be great to do for a wedding. Do both the bride and the groom on the sheet of paper. Or you could do a family "portrait" with a series of them. And kids would love the fingerprinting process! And to see your fingerprint blown up like that is really quite cool! Never realized my fingertip had wrinkles! :)

I'm just a little excited about them and my other ideas of what else I could do with them, but too excited to wait and work that all out before I show you the very first one!!

The Holidays are Here

Something new I'm trying—and loving.



I'm doing some other paper cuttings, but as they are going to be presents, you'll just have to wait! I'm sure I'll have more done soon that I'll be free to show.
