Went to lunch and a photo shoot broke out!
I am in the marketing department of the company I work for and we have a photographer on staff. He likes to take his camera with him whenever possible. So when three of us went to lunch, an abandoned car wash next door was just a little too enticing to be left alone.
These are pretty silly, but we had a lot of fun! (and yes, they were meant to be laughed at when it came to the posing—think olan mills photos, senior pictures, band photos, etc)
We even took some of just me! (Anyone notice my new profile picture?) I felt like I was 18 again taking my senior pictures!
Definitely check out Bradley Spitzer's website. Lots of very cool photography! (I've even made it on his page now)

Brainstorm!!!!
I live in a very small house in an up-and-coming neighborhood in the downtown Nashville area. When my husband I bought the house, our plan was to live there 2 or 3 years and then move on to something a little more family friendly. A few months after moving in we found out we were pregnant. The spare room in which we had our "gym" was turned into a nursery and our plans got pushed back a little bit. 9 months after Charlie was born, we found out we were having another. Our upstairs TV/family room and office/craft area became the girls' room and the downstairs nursery became the office and plans were pushed even further back.
Only in actuality, Peyton has never made it upstairs to the shared bedroom. Instead the downstairs office is a crazy catch-all room that includes Peyton's bedroom and a desk. Only the desk is really just there to store stuff as it is impossible to use that room as anything else when there is a sleeping baby occupying it.
This all means that when I sew, I have to take over the dining room table. And as most projects do not fit nicely into the hour or two I have to sew here and there, my stuff gets strewn out for days, stressing everyone out with the mess and lack of place to eat.
SOLUTION!!!
This buffet sits in our dining room and has very random stuff in it. (also, notice the sewing machine sitting to the side.) It has been missing a shelf on half of it for about 3 years now, which, for 3 years now, my mother-in-law has told us is in her basement. Yesterday, Nate finally went and got it so that I can re-allocate most of the stuff over to the other side and find new homes for the rest, turning this half into my sewing craft storage.
Notice the empty wine racks taking up most of the space? I don't think they've ever held more than 2 bottles at a time. They can be put away for the time being!
I'm really excited. This will allow me to easily put my stuff away while I'm working on a project and not feel like I have to devote every waking moment to that project just to get it out of the dining room even though other things, such as dishes and the house are being ignored. Also, all my supplies will be easily accessible and I won't have to worry about waking Peyton when I forget something.
Of course, as soon as I get this all set up Peyton's sleep schedule with miraculously come in line with Charlie's and we'll move her up to her real room and this will all be a waste, but in just in case that doesn't happen. . .I'll go ahead as I have planned!

Rain Boots, Puddles and Ice Cream
This last week we had a lot of rain, so Charlie was able to put her new boots to use!
I think I'm going to have to get my own pair so I can join in. Looks like fun!
Look how proud she is of herself!!
On Sunday we also took her for her first ice cream outing! I forgot to take a camera though!!! Sorry. But she was so cute. We got her a hot fudge sundae and the girl was really sweet and also gave her whip cream and sprinkles to make it even more special! She ate the whole thing and was such a big girl about it. She even tried sharing with Peyton!!
Afterwards, she was this crazy, sugar-high, ball of energy—which, as wise experienced parents, we had planned for and headed to the park along the river for more puddle splashing and some swinging and sliding. We were wet, but it was a lot of fun!!
I think I'm going to have to get my own pair so I can join in. Looks like fun!

Bloomers=Clown pants
I hesitate to say this, I would like to think highly of Heather Ross and the book that she poured a lot of time and energy into. However, I've made the bloomers. They look like clown pants (or shorts, I guess) when I put them on Charlie.
This morning Nate told Charlie he was going to start calling them her Shakespeare pants!
Now I'm trying to decide if I should attempt to fix them, or just go with it as she's only supposed to wear them around the house. There's just a lot of excess fabric that makes her look silly, not cute. I'll probably just try to shorten the leg on the ones I haven't completely sewn up yet and call it good. Only one casualty
Yesterday morning, while sitting on my front porch with my husband, we made a very pleasant discovery!!
A pair of cardinals have decided make their nest in the holly tree right off of our porch! Of course, I had to take pictures of the little eggs inside—
Unfortunately, I couldn't see inside to take a good picture—I didn't want to upset Mamma bird more than I already was, so I just stuck my camera up there and snapped!
All the while, Mamma was nearby chirping away at me and apparently calling Daddy bird to the rescue, because he showed up pretty quickly!
Not sure what will happen and if we'll be able to use our front door once the eggs hatch. I've seen birds get pretty protective of the baby birds—as what Momma wouldn't??—and not let people anywhere in the vicinity. . .back door people we will become!!!
Yesterday was also a big day for us. Nate is painting the house and in the midst of scraping discovered that the upstairs window is somehow pulling out. So we spent some time replacing rotten boards and re-enforcing what's there. Nate was outside on the ladder while Charlie and I were inside "helping."
It was really quite high up, so I would hang on to the ladder when ever possible just to give an added sense of security—not sure how much help that REALLY was, but I'm sure I took some of the bounce out of the ladder—and handed him tools as needed. Charlie was very interested in the entire proceedings and like to hand tools to Daddy when not needed and show her baby doll the open window. Though it would have been near impossible to keep her away from the window, it did make Nate a little nervous to have her so close since he couldn't be aware of whether she was safe or not, like I was (honestly, I probably had my hand on her the entire time). Despite my constant vigilance in regards to her, we did have one casualty.
Charlie's baby got too close to the edge and made a flying leap to the ground.
Sadly, she dropped her pacifier a bit later and was much more tore up over its demise than her baby being dropped. . . .definitely knows her priorities!

From our backyard
I love the spring! Warm days and evenings. Sitting in the yard as the sun sets. Watering the garden.
Trying not to cringe as she gets her new dress all muddy.
(My inner voice is telling me it's not that important and to let her just be a kid and proud of herself for "doing it" herself. Besides, that's why we buy OxyClean, right?)
Playing on the swings as dinner is being grilled.
Hanging out with Nana. (and being all shy)
(I think she's starting to get sick of me and my camera!!)
Oh, and today Nate is taking the girls to the library where there is supposed to a marionette show! I told Nate to take the camera, so perhaps I'll have some pictures to show later today or tomorrow.
And last night I got a bunch of the bloomers cut out so I'll be at my sewing machine this weekend!!
